SC State celebrates three graduates entering the teaching profession

Caring, attentive teachers who created a quality learning environment were among the things that three aspiring educators say South Carolina State University provided them along their educational journey. “I really do feel that SC State has prepared me for this career. I’ve had some amazing professors. Everything that I’ve been through throughout these past 3½ years has just prepared me for this moment,” Akiah Moorer said.

‘It was worth the wait’: SC State University to graduate 1st mechatronics engineering student

As industries race toward smarter systems and automation, South Carolina State University is preparing engineers who can keep pace. Leading the way is Omar Shaheed III, the university’s first mechatronics engineering graduate. The 23-year-old will walk across the stage during SC State’s Dec. 11 Fall Commencement exercises as not only the first graduate of the program, but also its first enrolled student.

SC State Army ROTC to commission new officers on Wednesday, Dec. 10

South Carolina State University’s Army ROTC Bulldog Battalion will commission its newest 2nd lieutenants during a ceremony set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Garnet & Blue Room of the Kirkland W. Green Student Center. The commissioning ceremony is a milestone event for graduating cadets as they take the oath of office and transition from students to officers in the U.S. Army.

Video: BECT Greenhouse plant sale set for Monday, Dec. 8, on SC State campus

South Carolina State University's BECT Institute — the Institute of Business, Environment, Communication and Transportation — has opened the BECT Greenhouse behind the planetarium, near the ROTC building. Since 2022, the institute has expanded hands-on learning opportunities across campus, including greenhouse activities that support botany students and visiting K-12 groups.
