Dannie Mays
Dannie Mays serves as the learning specialist in the Department of Athletics, where she provides intense one-to-one academic support based upon the documented accommodations and modifications to the educational curriculum as outlined by an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504. The learning Sspecialist collaborates with the on-campus student disabilities coordinator/specialist.

Background
Mays rejoined the workforce in 2012 as an academic support specialist for SC State Athletics after retiring from the public sector in 2011. Throughout her extensive career in education, she accumulated 36 years of experience as a teacher, supervisor, administrator, and consultant across various levels, including elementary, middle, high, and college, with a focus on speech and special education. Mrs. Mays' expertise also extended to working with the Department of Juvenile Justice, where she played a crucial role in educating and supervising incarcerated youth within youth detention/development centers. She additionally provided education to students in a psychiatric hospital, working with children exhibiting a wide range of exceptionalities.
Graduating from SC State College (University) in 1973, Mays holds a bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology, a master's degree in Education (Special Education), and has obtained over 30 certifications in Administration and Supervision. Active in her community, . Mays is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Retired Teachers Association, the NAACP, and Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. Her involvement in these organizations reflects her commitment to service, education, and community engagement.
