Dr. Dior Konate is a full-tenured professor of history and the Academic Program Coordinator for South Carolina State University’s History Program.

Background
Dr. Konate has been at SC State for 16 years. She served previously as an assistant and associate professor before being promoted to a full-tenured professorship in 2019. In 2018, she published her first book, “Prison Architecture and Punishment in Colonial Senegal,” funded by the NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities) in 2012. She is currently working on her second book, “Constructing Death: Capital Punishment in Senegal,” also funded by a 2020 NEH grant.
Research Interests
Colonial justice, colonial and post-colonial prisons, criminality in colonial Senegal, capital punishment, female juvenile delinquency, women and prisons, women and politics in Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, West Africa, and the African Diaspora.
