Background
Dr. Shumpert was hired at SC State University in the Department of Human Services as an assistant professor of criminal justice on a tenure track in August 2016. He has served as the coordinator of the Criminal Justice degree program since 2016. As a faculty and program coordinator, he has engaged in student-centered teaching, active research, and relevant community service. Dr. Shumpert has 38 years of direct experience(s) in the criminal justice/public safety discipline as a professor, practitioner, and researcher. Most recently, Dr. Shumpert was named Professor of the Year in the Department of Human Services, received the Junior Faculty Award during the fall 2021 Academic Affairs Institute, and received tenure and promotion in 2022.
