Meet Trustee Johnson
Dr. Darrell Johnson is a member of the South Carolina State University Board of Trustees.
He is the executive director of the South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators.
He serves on the board's Academic Affairs Committee, Public Relations/Institutional Advancement & Alumni Relations Committee, and Student Affairs & Athletics Committee.
Why do you serve SC State? "I serve to actively contribute to SC State's preservation, growth, and success as well as set long-term strategic goals that ensure academic excellence. As an alumni, it allows me to give back and invest in developing future leaders and be an advocate for student needs, faculty support and campus improvements. It's an honor to work cohesively with the Board to ensure all voices are heard and valued in the governance process."

Background
A veteran educator of 36 years, Dr. Johnson was Superintendent of Greenwood District 50 for 13 years and one year at Orangeburg Consolidated School District. He is an educational and motivational speaker who has experiences ranging from school custodian, nursing attendant, and HVAC assistant to teacher, principal, newspaper writer and executive director of school consortiums.
In 2017 he was the SC Career and Technology Educators Superintendent of the Year. He was a NCAA Division I basketball official for 25 years and currently is CEO of Premier Education Consultants and Chairman of the Javon & Mary Johnson Foundation. He's also the author of "It Ain't in the Book."
He is a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
