Boyd named general counsel at SC State University
“Ms. Boyd brings to SC State demonstrated capability in civil law as both an expert advisor in legal matters and as a successful litigator,” Conyers said. “Given the complexities of our missions in education, research and outreach, her experience and knowledge are essential assets for the university.”
The SC State Office of the General Counsel (OGC) provides legal advice to the university’s Board of Trustees, administrators, faculty, and staff regarding legal matters affecting or involving the university. The office also aids the SC State administration in the formulation of university policies.
The OGC also handles all requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), background checks from federal agents, and subpoenas.

- Navigating emerging legal challenges: As higher education faces evolving legal landscapes, she is committed to staying ahead of trends to protect the university's interests and mission.

With two decades of legal expertise, Boyd is a seasoned attorney who specialized in civil litigation and business law. Boyd is a graduate of Clemson University and Howard University School of Law. She is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the National Bar Association and currently serves as a Board Member for the South Carolina Bar Foundation. She is AV-Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting the highest standard of professional excellence and ethical practice. She was recently named one of the state’s Legal Elite.
Boyd is an active part of her community, serving as a member of Jack and Jill of America Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She is married to Roland Boyd Jr., and they have two children, Ivy and Roland.
