SC State to temporarily close portion of Naylor Street for residence hall construction

The road closure will begin Monday for the installation of concrete wall panels. 

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State University will temporarily close a portion of Naylor Street beginning Monday, Aug. 24, as construction progresses on the university’s new residence hall.

The closure, expected to continue through mid-October, is necessary to allow crews to erect concrete tilt wall panels for the residence hall. The closure will affect Naylor Street from the end loop of the Mitchell Hall parking lot to the intersection of Buckley and Naylor streets. 

The closure will help ensure the safety of SC State students, faculty and staff, as well as Felton Laboratory Charter School students, while large concrete wall panels are lifted and set into place.

Road closure schedule

 During non-football game weeks, the affected section of Naylor Street will be closed from 8 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Friday. 

During football game weeks, the road will be closed from 8 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Thursday.

Naylor Street will remain open in the evenings and on weekends. 

Access to Felton Laboratory Charter School

During closure periods, traffic accessing Felton Laboratory Charter School will need to enter the SC State campus through Gate 2, turn right onto Naylor Street, and then turn left onto Lance Street for student pickup.

To minimize traffic impacts, Felton is encouraged to use the Cafeteria Loop for student pickup, as it has during similar campus traffic adjustments in previous years.
