Update: SC State Chestnut Street entrance to temporarily close Wednesday through May 10
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina State University’s Chestnut Street entrance (Gate 5) will close from Wednesday, April 24, at 7 a.m. until Friday, May 10.
The university will open Gate 4 at Buckley Street from Goff Avenue during this period. The main gate at Geathers Street (Gate 3) from Magnolia Street will be open for 24-hour access.
As a reminder, everyone entering the campus is required to display identification. Students and employees should have their SC State IDs ready for the guards. Visitors should submit a driver's license or other government-issued ID.
The Gate 5 closure is necessitated by the installation of gates on the new columns at the entrance as part of the Chestnut Street corridor beautification project. The project also required the construction of a new Gate 5 guard house, which is nearing completion.
The closure also will allow for crews to raze the old guardhouse.
