Angel Pointer joins SC State as alma mater’s director of alumni relations and engagement
Pointer is a 2012 SC State honors graduate with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and a minor in computer science. She is a life member of the SC State University National Alumni Association and a member of the Greater Charlotte Alumni Chapter, where she serves on the Technology Committee as chair, Gala Planning Committee, Executive Board, and the Membership Committee.

On the National level, Pointer serves as a member of the Technology, Convention Planning, and SOT Committees, as well as the chair of the Virtual Experience/Social Media Committees.
Pointer is an advocate for her beloved HBCU, SC State. She has been an instrumental player in bridging the technology gap and the gap between younger and more seasoned alumni.
“There is not an airport I’ve walked in without wearing something that boldly says SC State and there is not a room I’ve entered that I don’t speak her name,” Pointer said. “I love my HBCU. The old quote still rings true, “I’m Bulldog Born, Bulldog Bred, and when I die, I’ll be Bulldog Dead.
“It’s a blessing to come back home and do something I go so hard for and love so much. Mommy, I’m home,” she said. “I’m ready to continue the work I’ve been doing from the SCSUNAA side as an alumnus bridging the gap between seasoned and younger alumni, encouraging donations be it time, treasures, or monetary, and continuing to incorporate cutting-edge technology.”
During Bulldog football season, Pointer can be found in the press box and on the sidelines assisting with game day stats and box management, as well as in some basketball seasons at the scorer keeper’s table doing the game stats.

While earning her Master of Business Administration degree in management from Strayer University with honors, Angel worked for seven years at Verizon Wireless in multiple capacities, leaving in 2020. For over two years she was a part of Lowe’s Corporate Office where she held the position of operational development analyst on the Field Implementation and Training Team in the supply chain sector. She traveled across the U.S. leading software implementations, trainings, and hiring projects while developing and stabilizing new and recently opened cross-dock facilities, stores, and fulfillment centers.
While working, Pointer earned her SAFe 6 Certified Scrum Master certification and Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Most recently, she held the position of associate vice president/strategy & planning consultant for the chief operations officer on the Strategic Programs and Enterprise Change Management Team at Wells Fargo.
Pointer was a leader at work and in the community, as a member of the Wells Fargo HBCU Roundtable and Black & African American Connection supporting DEI and HBCU events such as the MEAC Tournament, Celebration Bowl, and the Legacy Debit Card initiative.
She has also partnered with the National Black MBA Association as a member and liaison with the students of the HBCU Cohort Program and a board member with the Our HBCUs Matter Foundation.
Pointer is originally from Orangeburg, and she attended Felton Laboratory School K- 8th grade on the SC State campus. During her high school days at Orangeburg Wilkinson, she was a four-year letterman in tennis, cheerleading, and AFJROTC Blue Angels Fancy Platoon and Drill Team.
She has been a lifelong member of Williams Chapel AME Church in Orangeburg.
Pointer is the youngest of three generations of Bulldogs. She is the proud daughter of Jacqueline P. Turner, SC State Class of 1994, and retired clerk to the County Council of Orangeburg.
Pointer has served as the 2013 and 2014 Miss Charlotte Chapter, SCSUNAA, and has been honored as the 2019 Charlotte Chapter Newcomer of the Year. In 2022, she was awarded SCSUNAA National Distinguished Young Alumna of the Year. She recently received the honor from the Charlotte Chapter as 2023 Alumna of the Year.
