Guidelines for entering the SC State University Campus
South Carolina State University has implemented enhanced campus access procedures to strengthen the safety and security of students, employees and visitors. Effective Monday, Aug. 3, all individuals entering campus through designated gates must comply with updated identification and access requirements.
Employee ID Requirements
Faculty and staff must present a valid SC State employee ID for electronic verification when entering campus. Displaying an ID card without electronic verification is no longer sufficient. Employees should replace outdated ID cards as soon as possible. If an employee ID does not scan, a replacement card may be obtained through the One Card Office in Crawford Zimmerman.
Campus Entry Gates
Gate 3 (Magnolia and Geathers streets)
- Faculty and staff only
- Valid SC State employee ID required for electronic verification
Gate 4 (Buckley and Goff streets)
- Students arriving without guests
- Valid SC State student ID required for electronic verification
Gate 5 (Chestnut Street and Wilkinson Boulevard)
- Employees
- Students arriving with guests
- All visitors
- Employees and students must present a valid SC State ID for electronic verification.
- Guests must present a valid driver's license for electronic verification.
These procedures are part of the university's ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming campus by verifying authorized access for students, employees, vendors and visitors.
Questions about employee ID cards should be directed to University Computing and Information Technology Services or the One Card Office in Crawford Zimmerman.
Student access
- Students must use the Goff/Buckley Streets Gate (Gate 4) for both entry and exit.
- A valid University Student ID must be presented.
- A properly issued parking decal must be displayed.
- Students without appropriate credentials may be denied entry.
Students bringing guests
- Entry must occur through the Chestnut Street/Wilkinson Boulevard Gate (Gate 5).
- All guests will undergo required security screening before campus access.
- Students should allow additional time for guest processing.
Visitor Hours and Entry
- Non-student visitors are permitted on campus from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. only.
- The hours from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. will be designated as study/rest hours for students.
- All non-student visitors must enter from the Chestnut/Wilkson entrance unless otherwise directed for university-sponsored events.
News media
- All news media representatives must enter at the Magnolia/Geathers Streets Gate (Gate 3) and report to the Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing, Suite 100 in the Ko W.G. Donma Administration Building, unless otherwise directed by Strategic Communications and Marketing staff or during university-sponsored events.
