SC State University’s Fields elected vice chair of South Carolina Deans Alliance

ORANGEBURG, S.C. –
Dr. M. Evelyn Fields, dean of South Carolina State University’s College of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences (CEHSS), has been elected vice chair of the South Carolina Education Deans Alliance (SCEDA). 
 
SCEDA is a consortium consisting of deans of schools and colleges of education from all public and private colleges and universities in the state South Carolina. The organization’s purpose is to address shared challenges and opportunities for education preparation programs across the state.
 
SCEDA primarily focuses on educational leadership, advocacy, and collaboration between higher education institutions and K-12 systems to improve educational outcomes within the state. This group discusses and implements initiatives to address the challenges within the South Carolina education system, such as teacher recruitment and retention, professional development, and policy recommendations.
 
The organization also serves as a platform for sharing best practices and aligning higher education programs with the needs of local schools and communities.
 

About Dr. M. Evelyn Fields

Fields earned her Master of Education and Ph.D. in early childhood education from the University of South Carolina.

Over the past 25 years, Fields, a tenured full professor, has held numerous positions at SC State including chair of teacher education and interim associate provost for faculty and programs. This is her third year serving as CEHSS dean.
