South Carolina State University recognizes excellence among students each spring at the Honors and Awards Convocation.
This occasion is a time to honor students who have distinguished themselves in scholarship and service. Such distinctions are recognized through the attainment of Presidential Pins, academic scholarships and awards.
Honorees receive Presidential Medallion Pins -- gold, silver and bronze -- indicating their high academic standing. The Presidential Scholar Awards were initiated in 1977 by Dr. M. Maceo Nance Jr., SC State’s fifth president. The objectives were to recognize students who demonstrate academic excellence, to encourage those who maintain academic excellence to achieve higher levels of academic pursuits, and to provide symbolic recognition via the Presidential Pins.
