Meet the Provost 
Dr. Frederick M. G. Evans is the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs at SC State University..
He formerly served as the Dean of the College of Graduate & Professional Studies at SC State and as an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership in the Department of Educational Leadership teaching doctoral and educational specialist level courses and directing student research (dissertations).
Dr. Evans has worked in the field of education for more than thirty-five years, published multiple peer-reviewed articles, completed several grant projects, and is currently completing a textbook in the discipline of educational leadership.
Dr. Evans has presented and served as a facilitator in several South Carolina school districts providing training to teachers and administrators on Brain-Based Research and national conferences including the National Educational Association (NEA) Annual Conference.
His key research areas are leadership, ethics, management, and school law. Dr. Evans has provided expert witness consulting for several legal cases on matters such as school board policy, school discipline, higher education, K-12 ADA compliance, personnel administration, and public safety standards/school ethics.
As a 35-year veteran in higher education administration and K-12 consultant, Dr. Evans served on several boards throughout the State of South Carolina.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in social science/political science, Master of Education in secondary education/history, and Doctor of Education in educational leadership. He also completed post-doctoral studies in curriculum and instruction, policy, higher education administration, and school law (1L).
Meet the Associate Provost 
Dr. David Staten is the associate provost for academic affairs at South Carolina State University.
Staten is a professor in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program at SC State. His primary area of research includes the racial identity development of minorities with disabilities, the health orientations of African American college students, and health disparities of minorities with disabilities.
Staten has been employed by SC State as a rehabilitation counselor educator for 22 years. He has over 17 years of administrative experience as the program director of the rehabilitation counseling program and several years of experience serving as department chair.
He has successfully managed over $20 million of external grant funds from such agencies as the Rehabilitation Services Administration; the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research; and the US Department of Education.
Staten was the first African American man to serve as the president of the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association. He has also served as the president of the Orangeburg Morning Rotary Club.
He also has mentored several students who have had successful careers in rehabilitation counseling and higher education. Staten has extensive knowledge and experience in the area program and regional accreditations.
Staten received his Bachelor of Science in criminal justice in 1992 and his Master of Arts in rehabilitation in 1994, both from SC State. He received his Ph.D. in rehabilitation counselor education from the University of Iowa.
