Colors

Utilizing the correct colors is crucial for ensuring that our materials are consistent with the SC State brand. Our primary university colors are burgundy and navy. Introducing a secondary palette enhances flexibility across various communication styles, while promoting cohesion throughout all our materials.

The SC State color palette has two layers: primary and secondary. Our primary palette will always include burgundy and navy. These colors should be present in most marketing and communications materials. The secondary colors should be used as accents or to represent different moods.

Below are the tools and information necessary to guide your design decisions, along with sample color palettes that sub-brands and programs can utilize to establish visual distinctiveness while maintaining the university brand's integrity.

Tip: For digital use, RGB, HEX values, and CSS variables should be used. Special consideration should be given to accessibility whenever possible. When printing, consideration should be given for paper stock, printer type, and printing process. PMS and CMYK values may need to be adjusted to reproduce properly based on these considerations.

Logos

President and Executive Brand

The president, executive vice president and provost all use the SC State university brand in their communications. This includes incorporating the stylized logo and university seal on stationery and other significant documents. Faculty and Staff must contact University Relations and Marketing to request the vector graphics each logo.

Primary Brand Extensions

The primary brand extensions include university-level colleges, research institutes, university divisions, and units that report directly to top leadership of the university. These extensions are named after the unit's function rather than the lead administrator. Logo lockups should omit terms like "division of," "office of," etc., for clarity and simplicity. All primary brand extensions must adhere to SC State brand style and licensing guidelines. Faculty and staff must contact University Relations and Marketing to request the vector graphics for each logo.

Secondary Brand Extensions

The secondary brand extensions include units that report to the primary brand extensions. Examples of secondary brand extensions are schools and departments within a college, departments or offices within a division, or centers within research institutes. Secondary brand extensions receive logo lockups that typically always include the primary brand extension’s name. Secondary brand extensions must use SC State’s Brand Guidelines and licensing guidelines.

TIP: All lockup logos must be created by University Relations and Marketing team. To request a lockup logo, send a message to marketing department.

Partnership

Partnership logos are authorized only when SC State and an external entity establish a new, permanent entity that qualifies for a brand extension lockup logo if solely owned by SC State. Requests for partnership logos should be sent via email to marketing@scsu.edu. These logos feature the SC State stylized logo alongside the main logo of the external entity. Temporary partnerships, such as events and grant funding, do not meet the criteria for a partnership logo.

Each partnership logo must be approved by the University Relations and Marketing, the lead administrator in the SC State unit involved in the partnership, and the partner institution. The name of the entity created by the partnership is included in text under the partnership logo to integrate it into the overall logo. If the name of the college, program, or department name is part of the entity formed by the partnership, it will not appear in the partnership logo but will be included in editorial content.
